This project is made up of black and white 35mm film, digitally scanned, arranged on Photoshop, and hand bound into a one-of-a-kind book. Many images are paired with text printed on vellum to enhance the emotional response by the viewer. Some photographs are further enriched as double exposures, adding almost a blurriness to the vision that corresponds to how unclear and blurry these ideas and emotions can feel for me. The fragility of this handmade book mirrors the vulnerability and sensitivity I encounter in day-to-day life and even in the act of sharing my work.
This layered approach encouraged viewers to engage deeper within the work, as they peel back layers, both literally and metaphorically, to discover the deeper meaning. This can relate back to how each of our lives is layered with memories, stories, and emotions that shape our experiences in the world. The text itself represents lingering feelings and thoughts, emphasizing the sense of absence one can feel after a significant change
My main goal in this project is to further explore how my own memories are bound to emotions, and vice versa. I often find that memories are activated by my senses, such as the sight of an image or a smell, and possess the power to spark an emotional response. I believe that the true meaning of a photograph is not literal but multifaceted. One image will have different and personal effects on everyone.
